EDS Blog - Sip Into Summer - Toasting the Sunset

Pour, swirl and sip your way into the summer heat at Tower23. Every wine Wednesday is celebrated the correct way, with a glass in hand on the Tower Deck overlooking the ocean during JRDN’s annual Summer Wine Series. Join in the fun and toast to the San Diego sunset while different vineyards and wine professionals come to share their stories with you.

“People shouldn’t be intimidated to drink wine” say JRDN Wine Director, Chris Delaney. Delaney has been working at Tower23 for eight years and his love for wine blossomed from being in the hospitality business. He mentioned that he has worked at all different levels when it comes to hospitality, but interacting with people has always been the best part of the job. “It’s great seeing the smiles on our customers’ faces when we bring them exactly what they were looking for.”

Often times we put wine on this pedestal, but Delaney insists that “wine is made to drink, not to stare at.” That’s one of the best parts about the Sip Into Summer Wine Series, throwing those insecurities to the wind and creating relationships with those around you. “It’s a blast trying to decipher the wines as the night progresses” Delaney mentioned.

The best wines are the ones that we drink with friends and this summer is packed to the brim with fun sips at Tower23. Frog’s Leap Winery from Napa Valley will be kicking off the series on June 20th and when asking Delaney what people should look forward to, he gleamed with excitement. Delaney visits and hand picks specific wineries to be on display for each event and makes sure they are the right fit. “The goal is to create a more relaxed, engaging and casually elegant experience. I want to bring the right people to make the environment interactive and fun” Delaney stated.

Frog’s Leap Winery will be accompanied by live music while watching the tides. Frog’s Leap has been said to have major historical significance in California, being that it was one of the first wineries in Napa to be organic. Delaney mentioned that one of the main reasons he chose Frog’s Leap was simply because of their mantra, consistency.
